I guess my answer will depend on your answer to a question. Are you sure you put the new belt on the same way the old one was? If so, I would say your alternator is fubard. Any idea how long this thing was sitting where ever you got it?

They cant have been driving it very far and I hope you didnt either because that belt also drives the water pump. When you put in the belt you didnt tighten it too much did you? Also did you make sure to tighten the upper and lower alternator bolts? If you dont tighten the lower bolt, the alternator is cocked and the belt will squeal.
You can take the alternator off and bring to about any auto parts store and theyll test it for free.Last edited by MONSOON; 07-18-2009, 04:56 PM.Search Master - Honorary Member of Midwest Festiva Inc., Gulf Coast Chapter

^^ Just a guess, but you've either got a badly rusted coolant system, very, very old antifreeze, or you've got a HG problem. Very possible if it was driven very far with no water pump to circulate the coolant. Might want to change the oil, if you haven't already, and see what it looks like.
