  • starved for fuel

I bought a 92 Festiva L, it had been sitting for a few years. I had to replace the fuel pump to get it running. it ran well for a few days then it started to sputter and stall. i took it to a mechanic and they cleaned out the tank and replaced the fuel filter. it was running again for a few days and the same thing happened again. i replaced the filter again when that happened and it ran for a day and now it's basically un-drivable. I plan on replacing the air filter, as it is slightly dirty. Is there anything i can do to get this car running properly without having to replace the fuel filter everyday?

When they cleaned the tank did they replace the filter/sock on the fuel pump? Did they remove the tank or just drain it?

They took the tank out and cleaned it, they said there were some parts they couldn't clean because of the baffles. they didn't replace the pump sock, they said it had some rust flakes on it and they had cleaned it off. Could there be crap in my lines that's loosening up as i drive it?

That or the lines themselves (rubber mainly) are coming apart. Try replacing or at least looking at the fuel line under the hood. From the hard lines to the filter and then from the filter to the fuel rail. Make sure to depressurize the rai lbefore taking these off.

I got the pump form a junkyard, it still seems to be functioning well, i took a look at my fuel lines and they seem to be in ok condition, how difficult is it to replace the whole fuel line?

You may want to check the injectors too.
