ok, guy's I really screwed up this time. let me know how badly. I have an 89' carbed LX and I decided to change out my plugs, cap, rotor and wires. I changed out the rotor last week without too much hastle. tonight I swapped out the cap, wires and plugs...now it wont start. the rotor turns and it sounds like the engine wants to start it just wont catch. so I took everything out and put the old setup back in and now I get the same thing...no start. I check the fireing order and position of the plugs and still no start...did I do anything wrong? I used a magnet to retreve a screw from the engine bay, but I dont think that would kill it. It's dark out and I'll try to figure it out tomorrow. thanx in advance.

Pull the #1 plug, furthest to the passenger side. Put your finger in the hole and have somebody tap the ignition until it blows your finger out. That is TDC. Pull your cap. Rotor should be pointing towards the upper left, which is the number 1 cylinder. If the rotor is not facing the upper left, remove it and move it until it does. Install cap.
Plugs are numbered, as you are facing the motor from the front 1-2-3-4 from left to right. Distributor cap is numbered, facing the cap from the driver's side. #1 is upper left, then in a clockwise rotation, 2, 4, 3.ENFORCER - Midwest Festiva Inc., Iowa

Thanks Dan I went out and checked it today and it was a coil wire that fell out. I am an idiot in the dark!
I found this other wire disconnected and I dont know where it goes...
I think it might be a ground for some kind of sensor. In the picture the wire is pointing to the part that it comes from I think the writing was R17B or something like that. it's not plugged in now I don't know if that's a bad thing. let me know thanx!Last edited by Ogrestiva; 08-01-2009, 09:28 AM.89' Maroon and black Festiva LX with a sunroof. :alien:

I can't tell what's happening in the 2nd pic. Take a pic from further back, with your finger pointing at the area, then zoom in a bit with a clearer pic.ENFORCER - Midwest Festiva Inc., Iowa

Ogrestiva, I believe that second wire goes to the B side of your coil. Just went out and looked at mine, and the B side of mine has two black wires with white/yellow stripes, and one smaller black wire. Looks like you've only got two wires connected on your B side.

If I'm seeing it right, the black square piece in the pic is attached to the disty, yes? And the piece you are holding in your hand is the other end of the wire leaving that black box? If so, then that connects to the B side of your coil. If not, then nevermind.
