  • Gas gage and Temp gage's dead

My gas and temp gages do not work on my 1988 "L". Anyone have idea what is wrong? I am assuming it to be problem with dash panel. Speedometer and odometer work, and all warning lights work, as they come on (as they should) when first turning key.

basically the circuit works with 12v on one side (+) of the petrol (gas) and temperature gauge and on the other side or (-) the wire is connected to the sender units that are basically a resistor, the gauges read in milli volts.

try to locate a fuse for the instrument cluster

check the ground wires for the temperature and petrol (gas) senders are ok.

Its a pain if you have to access the printed circuit board but if you do look for a crack in the copper bus or perhaps a loose connector.

you will most probably need a small multi-meter to check for voltage (+) and to check the printed circuit board.

best to disconnect the battery before using a multi-meter in ohms range, but check your radio isn't the type that has a code reset.
