  • Clutch?

Sup guys! I have a 1988 Ford Festiva L and my clutch is gone so i'm going to be replacing it with new one and i was wondering if i'm going to have to pull out the engine or i can just support the transsmission and and just slowly remov it. Also i was wondering how meny bolts are holding the transsmission to the block, that will be very helpful.
    Thank you!!!

It is easiest to just remove the transmission. I think it has 8 bolts not counting the 2 on the starter. 2 are small 10 mm that are in the thin aluminum plate between the motorand trans. Post your location too. If there are ppl in your area you might just get some help.

I replaced clutch in mine few years ago. Yes you can just physically remove the transmission with armstrong power and no lift of any kind. Mine is 4spd and I just took deep breath and lifted it out of car after disconnecting everything. If you still have that rats nest of black spaghetti connected to engine that is biggest downside to just pulling engine and tranny as a unit. That is flat out time consuming to deal with. Otherwise probably not much more hassle to just pull drivetrain out as a unit assuming you have access to come-along, hoist, tractor loader, whatever. But is pretty nice to know you could, if forced to, even replace clutch in parking lot or alongside road with just hand tools and a strong back. Hopefully nobody would let it get to that point. Clutches unlike automagic trannies generally give lots warning as they wear down to where car wont move. Now clutch cable can go anytime and good idea to carry a spare. Unlike many people, I like cable clutch linkages, as long as I have a spare with me and its easy to replace. Now if its a 3 day special order and I am away from home, then not so nice.
