  • '91 Alternator electrical connector -- how to disconnect?

I'm disassembling a '91 Festy that I picked up for $100 for parts. I'd like to remove the wiring harness intact, but that seems to require disconnecting the alternator from the end of the harness to thread the harness back through the left front door pillar.

Since the engine is out of the car, I have the alternator in my hands with the wiring still connected, but it's not obvious how to "release" the connector. Does it need a special tool?

I can take a photo if need be, but not sure how to post photos to this site.

I need to get the shell outta here this weekend since the neighbors are starting to complain.

This really didnt need to be posted twice did it? People are in and out of here all the time and the ones that may know the answer may still be at work.
Anyways its clipped in there. You should see a tab on the side of that connector. Push it it with your thumb while pulling it out. Easy enough. Mightve even got it on your own if youd looked a little harder at it.

And if you havent bought them yet. Do yourself a favor and buy the Haynes and Factory service manuals, they definately come in handy.

MONSOON, before you start chewing people out for double-posting, consider the fact that it might have been accidental. I hit the BACK button after posting, then F5 to refresh, and that apparently caused the second post. I noticed it, but couldn't find a way to delete one of them. I know all about multiple time zones and was NOT simply getting impatient.

As far as saying "Mightve even got it on your own if you'd looked a little harder at it," I spend quite some time at it, even asked some neighbors (who are licensed airplane mechanics) if they had any ideas, but no luck. My vision isn't what it used to be and neither is theirs. Just wait until you're old and you'll see (or not see) what I'm talking about. Not everyone on this board is under 25.

As far as having the Haines manual, I've had ONE copy since I bought my first Festiva nine years ago. I keep it at my home in Alaska where I spend 90% of my time, and I'm in Seattle this week. I'm trying to be ready to finish the disassembly when I fly back to Anchorage this weekend, in order to be a good neighbor.

You should think about someone's possible situations before dumping on them.

That's the ticket, right there. It's kind of a pain to get the clip to release, but it will, then the connector just pulls off. Goes on a lot easier than it comes off. An admin or mod can probably just delete the other thread. Best of luck. Just don't pry on it too hard.

Won't go into why I offer that advice.

            Neither am I.
The double post comment came from the fact that there was over 1 hour difference between the 1st and 2nd posts.
Anyways, youve gotten your answer, its done and over with. Time to move on.
