  • 91 Festiva starving for fuel and may not start

sorry for jumping in on this thread, but I feel this is a common issue.

I have a 1991 fuel injected with a very similar problem.
Car dies or it seams to be starving for fuel, some time it may not start.
I have been lurking hoping some of you having the same problem would give me
    some insight to my issue.

I need to order the manual.
but until I do can some one advise the location of the fuel pump relay & the fuel pump.
I not sure if this is the problem but have start some where.
The fuel filter has been replaced, and i will be verifing fuel pressure & vacuum pressure.

    Thanks

      leesr,

I moved your post so that you can get some direct help with your problem.

Please also add your location to you profile.
Someone could well be close enough to drop by and give you a hand.
At the top of the page
      Go to "User CP"
      Go to "edit your details"
Scroll the bottom of the page and add some indication of your location.
We are not interested in you mailing address, and no sales persons will call.

Fuel pump is in the tank and accessible via a hatch under the back seat carpet.

Fuel pump relay is under the dash close to the PCM/ECU.
I'm not sure what it looks like myself but someone else may have a pic.
      Good luck and welcome aboard!

If I am not mistaken your fuel pump is inside the tank. I have an 88 that is carb so i know mine is on the engine block and runs off of the cam. However, since yours is efi, I would imagine it is located in the tank. You shlouuld be able to get access to it by tilting the rear seat forward and pulling the carpet back. Then dissconnect the wire and the the fuel line from the cover. You will understand once you see it. I do believe I have an extra one that I got with a box of parts for a festiva. It wont work with my car. So depending where you are I can possibly mail it to you. Just let me know.

          brickdog2000,

If leesr isn't interested PM me, as I'm in need of one!
Would be nice if it worked, but I have plans for one that doesn't work as well.

I'm not sure if it works due to the fact my car is carburated and the electrical connectors are different.

well I tested the car over the weekend

fuel pressure rock steady @ 30 PSI
Turn the car off, pressure stayed @ 30PSI, no loss of pressure.

Vacuum at 17 In HG @ idle, 22-24 In Hg at approx 1500-2200 RPM.
no tack so I guessing at RPM.
No bouncing of Vacuum pressure, no issues there.

Has to be a failing sensor or connection. I will take some tools with me
next time I take it out for a drive.
or will have to wait for total failure.

I am asking for some Info here
what are the main electrical sensors areas of concern.

for example the mass flow sensor, throttle control,

some tips would be nice to have

                      Thanks
