  • Another Ford Ranger question

    Hello all,

Got my brother-in-law's Ranger back together after changing the timing belt, moved the truck to the front of the house and promptly lost the only key he had! Amazingly enough I had a spare Festiva key in the garage that opened the door but I had no luck with the ignition.

Does anyone here have any experience changing the whole ignition lock on these things? I've found a couple of videos showing the ignition switch being changed out but they all use the old key

I'm heading to PnP in the morning to see if I can find a Ranger with keys in it and pull the entire lock assembly if possible along with the door locks.

    Cheers

You really need somebody that can post pics. Also I dont know about a '97, but did this on a '91 that friend bought at auction, it had been repo'd from somebody and didnt have a key. Anyway on it you removed the plastic shell around the steering column then look around the key switch for a little hole with a pin sticking in it. This pin is from the key switch and only easily retractable with key in switch. Well get a small pin punch that fits the hole and whack the pin until its forcibly pushed out of way, then switch will pull right out and you can snap another $10 switch with key from Autozone right into place.

However for all I know the '97s maybe totally different. Good luck.
