relpcaed but its not working. noticed some lube in both parts that attch tothe speedo meter and the tranny... any ideas guys im really lost and have no speedo .... thx for the input!!!!!

you removed the cable? If so...the end that attaches to the tranny has a little washer that is over the inner cable....it can fall off if you are not careful and then the end will not stay pushed into the tranny , making it so the speedo will not work.

Or he didn't line-up the nub in the tranny end of the cable with the key-way slot in the tranny gear end and it now slipping resulting in no speedo.
Pull the tranny end of the cable and with a good light make sure the nub drops into the slot you'll see in the tranny gear end.
If you done this right the threaded section will now screw down much farther than it did previously, provided that is what was wrong and the cable itself isn't broke.

              Betting broken cable!
Pull the cable off the car, disconnecting both ends and see if the cable inside the jacket is continuous.

You can take it out and spin it by hand to see if it is turning properly. If not McParts stores can get them for about 20 bucks. Make sure to lube the new one tho.

So did you break the clip(s) that mate it to the back of Speedo/Odo or just not getting them to engage?

How are you interfacing the cable and Speedo/Odo cluster?

Undo the tranny end and give yourself enough room to properly mate the cluster end. Then gently pull the tranny end till the cluster seats in the dash housing.
                    Then connect the tranny end.

That happens one in every five times I've had the cluster out most likely you didnt get the little tab latched in the groove on the back of the speedo - your cable looks fine - I've found you can do this by lossening the screws on the cluster (dont take them out though) reach your hand up behind the ducting above the gas pedal you will have more room if you unplug the right side harness by pressing up on the center tab and pulling towards the front of the car. you can then move your hand further in and grab ahold of the cable you can give it a tub to pull slack from the engine compartment. verify that the tab is still inplace and push it onto the speedo verify the tab clicked in by feeling the tab and giving the cable a tug towards teh front of the car.

If you cant get the way above - dont worry trim work isnt for everyone - then try the below sugestion

Yeah, done this as well, but unless your familiar with the hardware it more difficult.
Friend of mine didn't even have to loosen the cluster screws.
He has long thin arms and hands.
We forgot to hookup the speedo, we were having electrical issues, and we had already "set" the cluster in the dash.
He said "just a sec" and reaches right up under the dash and in 5 secs had the speedo cluster hooked-up.

Love it "trim work isn't for everyone!"
