  • Need help with rocker arm/HLA issue

I have a HLA that is not pumping up in peewee. I also have an extra complete engine that I was planning to use the rocker arm/hla's to repair the one in the car. I noticed that the rocker arms were different. I am posting photos of the 2 in hopes that someone can tell me if the two are interchangeable. The top valve cover is from the one in the car and the bottom valve cover is from the spare engine. Rocker on the left is in the car and right is from spare. (yes I know the rockers in the photo are intake (left) and exhaust (right).
    Thanks
    Jerry

Well according to my guesstimation I would say that your replacement engine is from an Aspire. Therefore going with that thought The HLAs will be interchangable between rocker arms. Or you could just swap the whole rocker shaft assembly. That is if the cam is the same which according to FMS they list the same performance cam for both engines. Hope this helps.

the cams are NOT the same. Roller followers MUST stay with the Aspire cam, flat followers must stay with the Festiva cam. The cams are physically the same size, and either will fit and work in both heads.

That's what I thought. It did seem strange to me that FMS has the performance cams listed for both Festiva/Aspire with no mention of roller rockers. Hmmm.......

Roger does specify that the FMS cams MUST be used with flat followers.

Thanks fellows I figured out that the spare is an aspire and the one in the car in the Festy. I bought both engines a while back. Thought I had put the Aspire engine in the car but I was wrong... I removed the HLAs from the aspire and put them in mine. Still clicks but not as bad as before. While I was searching for clues I found the Aspire roller arm thread, and it explained a lot about what I had. Thanks again
