Well I'm going to have to say that you're probably going to need a fairly strong and narrow piece of rope or cord pushed into the groove in the rubber that would normally go over the pinch weld. The cord will be wrapped the full perimeter of the rubber seal AFTER the rubber seal is attached to the glass. Then you are going to need some sort of lubricant to help the rubber seal flip over the pinch weld while someone puts steady pressure onto the outside of the glass while someone else pulls the cord from the inside of the glass to get the rubber seal flipped over the pinch weld. This isn't a Festiva but it gives a pretty good description.

            The glass or the installer?

Can you get another glass if this one breaks?
Otherwise, cheaper to pay an installer for his labor/skill for the install.

Barring that, make sure the hatch is in the sun and the seal is warm/hot.
As already mentioned, use of a lubricant of your choice is a must.
Liquid dish soap and wire pull lube come to mind.

We have at least two people I know who have glass install experience here perhaps with a little more notice they could have, and might still, see your post.

Silicone lubricant works the best for installing/removing glass also a smooth piece of nylon clothes line (not the kind with wire in it though) works fairly well if you rub the line with a lubricant soaked clean rag

I hear a lot of tips from my VW guys... and the new thing is baby powder! That way you don't have to worry about the wetness staying in underneath the seal.

If marcus didn't have the video deleted from his camera it would of been on the boards. I'll see what i can do for a video.

                            no problem

I had quotes from $160 to $80 to $60 for 30 minutes of work.

I went down to my workshop and grabbed a piece of telephone wire.
Stuck it in the groove, inserted one end of the glass into the hatch and without any spit, soap or baby powder, lipped it in myself. I will never take it in to those vultures ever again.

You must take the first step. Besides, poverty is also a very good motivator.

I made a video, but i din't have a "hook tool" at the house and no one to hold the camera for me. I got the window in...tommorrow I'll shoot a video of both removing and installing. Someone can sticky it.
