During my engine swap I'm also putting in a new left side control arm, since the current ball joint is messed up. If all goes well, I'll replace both control arms (I have two new ones).
Today I began taking off some of the front suspension to get at the CVs. I tried my breaker bar on the left side control arm pivot bolt that goes into the body "rail."
It turned, or at least seemed to turn, about a tenth of a turn.
I'm worried. When I did the Mutt a few years back, both pivot bolts would not come out, and it took a hired gun over an hour with an air wrench and a torch to get them out due to corrosion.
Since these should be hardened bolts, the head is unlikely to break off, right?
Am I just paranoid about the threads in the body not letting go of the bolt?
I spritzed some more penetrant inside the rail and all around the bolt to let it soak some more, and tapped the bolt heads with a hammer.
I'm going to wait and let them soak till tomorrow.
I could also try some mild heat with a propane torch inside the rail at the end of the bolts (concentrating on the body to try to expand it a bit). Would this be a good idea?
Ideas, thoughts, rants please!
Yeah, I'm paranoid. I want this to go rather easily.
