It lost 4 and 5 gears. The guy who has it told me there was no strange sounds that indicated a major malfunction. He said the shifter just moves into no. 4 and 5 positions but there is no engagement. He checked the linkage and it's all in place. Any ideas? Is it a major tear down of the tranny to fix? Thanks

Give us some details on the car; mileage, what year. Might be simpler to stick in another tranny; check with Tonycash.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

possibly shift forks, which does require a complete teardown. But if you look around you can find a used aspire or festy trans, for about $100. TONYCASH had/has manual trannies for ? $55 ? something like that.-Greg
