I'm getting ready to install a new to me transmission in my '89 and want to replace the clutch while I'm at it. Are those Exedy clutch kits on Ebay pretty good or should I get something else? The car is stock - no BFEngine or anything. Also should I get a new flywheel. Thanks for the help!

I have no idea about the Exedy kit. When I replaced mine like 4 years ago, I just called around. O'Reilleys had kit in stock and best price at that time. No problems with it, seemed pretty good quality.

As to flywheel, you need to find a shop that will reface it. Though if no grooves or pitting, you probably can get away using it over as is. Reface it if slightest doubt though. Some parts stores will do it and definitely any automotive machine shop. Its not very expensive. Just call around. And check ring gear on the flywheel for wear. While everything is apart, if starter ring gear on flywheel needs replaced, now is time to do it.

They are excellent quality, I put an Exedy set-up in my '93. When I took the original Ford/Mazda out (which still worked after 110K miles) I noticed it had the Exedy logo stamped on the pressure plate. I believe I read they are the largest supplier of OEM clutches.

I had an exedy clutch in my old Festiva when the 5 speed was installed. Never had a problem with it, seems like a quality product.
