  • Common problems to look for when a Festy doesnt start....

I finally found a festiva not too far from me($185) but its missing a few interior parts(including a window) and it doesnt run. Everytime I pm the owner about why it doesnt run he doesnt know. All hes ever said about it not running is it didnt run, then he had it running for 15 minutes and then it hasnt ran agian. Sounds like its not getting spark or something, could the distributer be bad? What should I look for? I need to get this running before I buy it because I dont have a trailor.

Not exactly sure why it matters and im not sure what it actually is. Its fuel injected so i guess that means its 89 and its a 2 door festiva. Not sure what model, 5spd.

Check for spark at the coil and the plugs. Then check the MAF box electrical connection. This and the intake tube must be hooked up or it will not start. Also check for fuel pressure.

The sparkplug wire from the coil to the distributor, unattach it at the distributor and lay in of the firewall. Crank it over, should of course spark like crazy. Doesn't its bad. If you have a friend you don't like, could also come in handy:lol:. Besides that could be alot of things or combination of things.

Ok, im gonna go look at it sometime next week. Ill take lots of pics and if its less complicated then my mustang, I can probably figure it out. If it doesnt work, it might be a good contender for a B6T swap! How hard are those motors to come by nowadays and how much $$$?

They are hard to find. I've never come across one in the yard and never seen one locally for sale cheap enough. Besides, the only way to go is the BP

Yes the BP is the 1.8 found in Escort GT 91-96, Mazda Protege LX I wanna say the years for those were 90-95. Please correct me if im wrong with that. The motor is also found in 94-??? Miatas but of course in Rear wheel drive configuration. As for the B6t I have never had problems finding one for some reason. Probably because red necks in Arkansas dont know what they are. I have seen atleast 3 Capri xr2s in my local yards and there was one 323 GTX. I know where there is a 4th XR2 and thats where I plan to re collect all my missing pieces that I lost when the shop burnt down. Well good luck and if you get that car running you will be very happy with it. Festivas are awesome little cars and easy and fun to work on.

Has caught the most Festivas on Fire on this board!!
