  • 89 festiva L a/c problem

    My car idles fine but when i turn the a/c on it revs up real high. Blows cold but idles Way to high, i was wondering if anyone has had that problem or knows what may fix it. All tips appreciated

    Carburated? Not sure about a Festiva but I had a carburated 1987 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60 with the same problem. A single screw adjustment on the carb fixed it. Can't remember what it was called. Looking at your carb, have someone turn the AC on and look what moves, then try to adjust it. Hope that helps.

        Lowtide,
        There is a screw in a spring at the back drivers side of the carburetor that bumps up your idle speed when your A/C or another fairly high electrical load is applied. That linkage may be sticking or need adjustment. You can actually get to it & adjust it without removing the air cleaner if you use a stubby screwdriver. Just turn the screw counter clockwise to lower the speed. Do this when the engine is cold because things get mighty hot back there after the car has been running for awhile. That should fix your problem.
