Outside door moldings

I have an 89 with the wider gray molding down the side of the door. Its rusty and I found a door from a later year car, a 90 or 91 lets say. The door has the thinner molding on it. Can I just swap the wider one over to the new door? I assume the sheetmetal is the same.
