I didnt reroute the speedo wire at first and tryed pushing it back, wouldnt go so rerouted it got it all together and the mph is bouncing as i accelerate. Put the old one back in(rerouting cable) and now its bouncing???

    AND

My needle is sitting at -15 mph how do i get it to level at 0 mph?

My brand new cable bounces, so I don't know what causes it. As far as the needle being stuck on 15, see if you can tap the clear plastic on the front. If that doesn't work, you may have to remove the clear plastic piece and manually adjust the needle back to 0. My tach does this sometimes, and tapping it usually gets it to drop back down.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

Probably got a kink in the cable. Not sure if it can be fixed now, but maybe try pulling the cable out and lube it up

If i turn the needle up it drops back down, so its not stuck? Here is what it looks like... If i drive it bounces its way up in speed and goes back down to -15 when i stop

You kinked it, like I did one time, and that causes the bounce. I had to buy a new cable to fix that. ( yeah I was PO too!!!!)
Never saw a speedo go to -15 like that.... Was it like that when you started?

dont know, i disassembled it in my lap and might have pressed on it unintentionally?

I think im going to take the odometer from my non tach cluster and swap it into this tach cluster...Anyone done this or know how the needle comes off? All the brackets are there to swap in the trip odometer also, hoping it all goes in. But cant get anywhere without the needle coming loose.

lol, white cluster needle wouldnt move...orange cluster it poped right out and then i placed even to where it needed to be.

So all i have left is a bouncing mph, can i just pull the whole cable out and check for a kink?

I had looked those over before, and thought they were different size guts between tach & std.
I would pull the needle, and try to reset it on the old one first. First, move the needle upward, and see if it rebounds to the same place every time you do that. It should if it is not damaged. The needle is so close to the face, you will first need to use two flat screwdrivers to EASE it up far enough to get under it with either a panel remover tool like below, or a pair of needlenose. I just walked over and did this on a mule cluster I have, and reattached the needle succesfully. It was hard to get it back on without changing the speed at rest position, so try to make sure you have it just SLIGHTLYabove the 0 mark. That is where mine are in the two I have here. After you are happy with where you have the needle( after the *back to rest* test above), you can try it. Wish I could tell you that you dont need the Speedo Cable housing....... but.......

well got it working finally, one thing wouldnt work over and over again so i had to pull it all apart over and over again. But my speedo bounces not real bad but it does. No autoparts store can get a speedo cable around here and my parts car is a auto which was 1" to short. Anyone know where i can get one?

Undo the speedo cable from the transmission, then pull the inner "cable" out from the housing (the hole thing). Make sure it doesn't have any kinks. Then coat it with bearing (or any high temp) grease. That should help a lot with the needle bouncing.

I can get speedo cables new for $23. If you want to pay that plus shipping, I can pick you one up. Let me know.

For the one that I ruined, I got an OE from Roger at FMS. I then made the mistake of losing the part #. If you call the Dealer, of course because it is not in the computer, they say it is obsolete, which likely isnot true. If you go to a used one, what you have to watch are the two plastic ears that lock it down to the firewall. They fit VERY well, and usually break if you try to get the grommet loose. Peel back the rubber boot engine side and you can see more what you are doing.

                          Good luck

i might go this route, everything works and is in, just slight bouncing from 15-40. And yes i kinked it, pulled it out.

So dealer doesnt have the cable??

I don't know if they would have one or not, but if they did, it would probably be twice the price. If you want me to pick one up for you, send me a pm, and I can order it tomorrow. It generally takes 1 day for them to come in, and then shipping time. This goes to anyone looking for one. Just let me know.
