when i had my auto tranny in, driving 8 miles one way to work with 6 stop signs and not accelerating fast the max i acheived was 36 mpg driving VERY conservative...
hard accel, stopping fast very well might see 25 mpg.

i'd say first thing is drive not as hard and then report back.

It would be nice if it were accurate.
Yes, more choices, but it then becomes an issue of determining if the person giving the advice actually knows what their talking about.

My auto has hit 37 MPG on the highway (mostly flat terrain) and a low of 29 MPG in the mountains. Generally about 33-34 MPG in mixed driving
So 25 MPG if you drive hard might not be out of line.
That said, Mechanical's advice might be worth followup.

37 MPG combined city/hwy is the worst I've seen on my 90 EFI 5-speed, so that tells you the difference etween MTX and ATX cars in fuel economy.

My '89 auto, which was kind of abused before I got it, gets 31 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway regardless of how I drive it.

I bet with a little TLC you can pull low-mid 30s with your automatic.

Now as for the 5 speeds... I had a '93 that would give me no less than 38 mpg, even after I accidentally fried the 02 sensor!
