  • Zero Power

I poseted this question/problem incorrectly a couple of weeks ago but still got some good feedback but problem is still not fixed.
Background- About 6 months ago, I was in process of starting my 92 Fester and as motor was actually cranking, my foot slipped off clutch. All power was lost. It was like battery was zapped of all power. No acc. lights on panel worked, nothing. As I waited for my wife to come pick me up, I was just killing time and began taking key in and out of ignition, pushing and releasing clutch and after about 45 minutes, lights came back on, car started and I had no further problems. NOTE: I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I DID, IF ANYTHING. I have had no additional issues until about 2 1/2 weeks ago when the exact same thing happened. Foot slipped off cluch ( I know, make sure foot is securely on clutch in future) and all power was gone. I have done the key and clutch thing and nothing. Some wonderful posts said to check the fusable links, which I did and they appeared to be ok, others said to check the white plastic security thing located under the dash where the clutch depresses against and this appears to be working. Note what is the metal thing on the other end of the clutch peddle where if the clutch is not depressed, it is in. When I depress the clutch, it does not release. Could this be it. I need help in getting Fester back running...Gas is going up every day. Any help appreciated.

It sounds from your description you have found your problem. That would be the clutch safety switch, and unless it releases, the starter will not engage. Still don't know why that would cause a TOTAL loss of power though, unless the ignition switch is shot.

I must apologize to all. It was the fusable links...the friend I had helping me had disconnected the negative battery cable and I wasn't paying attention. ANYWAY....Fester is back on the road again. A huge thank you to ejp2fast, batstiva, Pu241, and m715....You guys are great...
