  • 89 Carb, Idle and Oil filter

Ok, just to set things straight, we're dealing with a 89 carb here imported from japan... so I'm not sure if things will be different..

So first question.. how do you set the idle? The picture in the haynes manual is completely different from what the carb looks like

Second question... what kind of filter dose an 89 carb B3 take? I picked up a festy one and it didn't fit... I had a B6 one kicking around and it worked.. is this right?

For the oil filtre look in the list at Canadian Tire. They are stocked at the stores in Ottawa.

The Festy oil filter didn't fit? Hard to believe it would be different in a Japanese version Festy vs. USA or Canadian. Are there different filters for the carbed and EFI cars? If so (which again I doubt), possibly you tried an EFI car filter? Are you absolutely sure you picked up a Festiva filter in the first place? Maybe the wrong filter in the Festy-filter location on the wall.

I thought the '89 Festivas were assembled by Kia in Korea all using the same block, so the oil filtre would fit. It's interesting to read otherwise.

The carburettor on mine, bought new at a dealership in Ottawa, is Japanese. It has "Aisam" stamped on it in a couple of places, and underneath "2-B" but it has to be removed to see that. If you can see anything written on yours then a search of the Internet on that text may turn up something.

PS: Do you know the history of your car? Perhaps there has been an engine swap?

Come to think of it, rereading his post, I think he's talking about an air filter for the carby airbox, not an oil filter.
