Ok, so I was letting Ol' red warm up today to check and make sure the altenator was working properly. The fan was not kicking on, so I thought I would test it by grounding the wire to the sensor. Well, as soon as I unplugged the sensor, the fan turned on. Is that normal? I thought that wire had to be grounded to turn the fan on? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the info. I was just thinking that it had to be grounded for some reason.The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

The fan relay is active until the fan sensor reaches set point and switches the relay off...you can test the fan sensor by placing it in an oven at around 110deg celsius, it should go to open and close again when the temp drops (check it with a multi-meter)"all I ask is the chance to prove that money won't make me happy":simon:

The "fan sensor" also has a weird name, i think it might be.... ummmm.... a thermostat
When the engine heats up and the thermostat opens, it breaks the ground circuit which then causes the fan to kick onLast edited by Damkid; 11-02-2009, 08:47 PM.
