  • high idle

my festy is runnin high. gonna get a tach and see how high today. It will not idle down even when it is warm. when i am driving it starts to rev when i push the clutch in. any ideas where to start? I have checked it for vacuum leaks. I am going to go ahead and replace all vacuum lines today.

    thanks

have you checked to see if the carb is getting stuck open? You may need to clean it up a bit, or possibly rebuild / replace it. Just my $.02.

dont think it is. if i let off the clutch a little to get drag it slows. not acting like if I held the pedal to the floor and did it

what about the idle adjustment? or the choke, or the load compensator?

load compensator? ok...I am a diesel mechanic. Im not too familiar with carburated gas engines. where is the load compensator located and where is the idle adjust screw on this carb? any help would be great

idle screw is on the passenger rear corner of the carb (white plastic knob), the load compensator is on the upper rear driver side of the carb, behind the choke (looks like a really small EGR diaphram with a linkage at the bottom). the linkage at the choke can also give issues if not properly lubed.
