  • highway speed clicking, front passenger area?

    Hey folks,

I'm new to the forum, and i just got my first festiva - a '90 5-speed standard with 240k kms on the odometer and zero rust. lots of festivas around here on vancouver island, british columbia. for the most part it's a happy car.

i've searched a bit on the forum and i can't seem to find an answer to my question: when i get up to highway speed there's an intermittent clicking coming from the right front end area. happens at about 85km/hr. i cant tell if it's from the engine compartment or suspension or what...any ideas?

    thanks!

the clicking will be steady and fast for a few seconds, then stop for a second or so, then start again. and it's only when i hit a certain speed (85km/hr) that it starts. i thought it might be the cv joint, but i'd hear the cv clicking at low speeds around corners, right?

A good start would be pulling the right wheel off and seeing if anything back there is loose, or maybe if some debris got caught under your car.

        Good luck, and welcome!

yes cv joints would be on corners normally. When it is making the noise....try and move the wheel back and forth enough to make the car swerve back and forth. See if the noise stops while the car is putting pressure to either side. If so it may be the bearings are wearing out. Do you have excessive noise coming from the front while driving....

also you may want to look at the HLA's:
