  • Metal clunking noise from a dead stop

Last couple of weeks when I am sitting in traffic my car has been doing something weird I have never heard on a festiva before.

Starting from a dead stop in traffic. I let off the clutch about 1-2 inches and just as the car is starting to pull itself forward it sounds like someone is tapping the plastic handle of a screwdriver against something in the passenger side engine compartment. It probably only makes the tap noise about 3-5 times and only does it at a dead stop just when the power of the engine is beginning to pull the car forward. When I go over bumps or anything it doesn't make the noise.

    Any ideas?

It has a 1.6 SOHC in it, but I believe it is all stock mounts and axles.

I'd check the transmission mounts. Had one go on my car and it made some interesting noises!
