Doors vibrate at highway speeds??

Had this problem since i bought it and was just wondering if they all do it. But when i get up to speed like 70-80 both front doors start to vibrate along the top of the door. Almost like the wind is finding its way in and making it try to open.

Anyone have this or a solution? I really have no idea on where to start.

Are the hinges sloppy? That might cause some of it.

Yes I would say they all do it. You can try to fix by rolling down your window, brace the inside of the door to your body and pull the top of the window frame, mostly the front top , towards you. Try to get it tweeked some and see if that helps. Don't go to extreme or your window may not roll up and then you have other issues to deal with.

Mine does that too. It's worst when I'm driving into a strong head wind. I think it's caused by wind buffeting around the A pillar and the vacuum it creates sucks the door frame out. If my window is down half way it gets sucked out of the door channels as well and I can't roll it up without slowing down or cracking another window to equalize the pressure. It's one of those characteristics (like the windshield wiper flutter and the stiff window cranks) that makes a Festiva a Festiva and reminds me that I'm driving a purpose built car: to get from point A to point B as cheap as absolutely possible! And, it fulfills it's purpose as well as any car in history has. When I remember that, I don't feel as bad about these little engineering oversights.

The method I typed above does help the door thing....if you get the helper springs for the wipers and then if you use the single curved blade type wipers, though a little more money, it will almost if not completely, get rid of wiper flutter. If you get new door cranks or known good ones....they are not tough at all to roll up and they stay level.

I'll try the door thing and see if it helps. I have done that before with an F250 & a Bronco and thought about doing it to the Festy, but was afraid I'll break an internal weld or something. I already have the Bosch single blade wipers and it helped. I was always going to try to find another stiffer spring off another car as well. Where do I find the "helper springs" and a good driver's side window regulator? The passenger's side works great, can the regulator just be cleaned and re-lubed?

that was actually another question i was going to ask, driver side is alright to roll down but passenger side is really hard to roll down. Feel like i can break the plastic window knob.

So im assuming they are all the same, could just pick up a thicker crank from auto parts store?

A thicker crank is not going to help a whole lot except to break more things. You have a metal gear and a plastic gear inside the regulator so if you put anymore leverage against it it will most likely just strip off the plastic gear. Ask me how I know :-)

that was actually another question i was going to ask, driver side is alright to roll down but passenger side is really hard to roll down. Feel like i can break the plastic window knob.

I noticed Festiva Motorsports is selling new window regulators for the passenger side on EBay right now.
