Has anyone had experience with a clicking noise which appears to be coming from the spedometer cable on the dash end. Sitting in car driving spedometer seems to make a clicking noise as you move and noise coincides with small bouncing of speedo needle. Stops when car isnt moving. I searched threads and saw one reference to lubing spedo cable, but does not describe what to do. Also checked Haynes manual and found nothing. Anyone ever have similar experience...how do you lube spedo cable? Thanks.

Ben, you should put your location in your sig. Advance auto parts sells new speedo cables for about $20. This is the way to go. They even come with a small tube of grease. As far as lubing it lay in the floor and reach up behind the dash and unplug it. There is a small plastic clip that holds it in place and can be tricky to get out. Good luck and keep us posted and welcome to ff.com-Greg

not sure about automatics, but on a manual its actually pretty simple. and it is in the haynes manual kindof... look up manual tranny fluid check. follow the step of taking off the knurled nut... you do not need to pull out the gear, but now may be a good time to check the fluid level... your call. the whole cable housing will lift out of the gear... you can then pull the speedo cable out of the sheath. carefull there are some small peices on the cable that could slide off the top of the cable... i use wd-40 to clean it then some graphite silicone spray i think to lube it. reassemble!light a man a fire and he'll stay warm for the night.
