Carb problem?

lately (since it's been getting cold) my car stutters like its not getting no gas, idles real high trying to get warmed up, won't start at all if it's been parked without heating up all the way, and this morning, completely shutoff without any warning. It started right back up like nothing happened after i got home from work.

im pretty sure this is carb problems. my question is if i rebuild it, is there ANY place where i can get all the electronic gizmos and vacuum mess of the sides of it? a carb kit only comes with gaskets and a float.

I could be wrong, but I believe you are going to want to lubricate your external carb components (choke unloader/preloader, etc.) They can get sticky, especially when it's cold and wet. Also may not hurt to make sure your EFE is connected, electrically.

I'd start with a can of spray carb cleaner. As it says on the can, spray inside warmed up carb while idling and spray outside linkages, especially atumatic choke linkage. You may get clouds of black smoke coming out the exhaust as it burns carbon out of the engine. That's normal but it might annoy the neighbours.

i think i figured out the problem. i believe my choke has gone crazy. im gonna try to spray it down possibly even unplug it.

This is a real pain and will result in the car running like a hairy goat when it is cold and it will foul the spark plugs with carbon...the choke breaker, its the part that sits on top of the carb on the side and it has a diaphram...when the diaphram splits you got big problem, you can check it if you have some spare vacuum hose by connecting and sucking on the tube to see if it moves

what about the choke thermostat? because it's acting like it doesnt know it's warmed up

Is it possible to add a manual choke to this carb, with one of the generic kits from a McParts store? Probably about $15.

You should remove the air filter assy and start the engine, if you gas the engine the choke should open and close when you release the gas, if the thermostat is working OK it will slowly open on idle (kiwi festiva's have a wax pellet type thermostat):naka:
