hey fellow festiva lovers. just finished a shwack(to me) of repairs on my festy. new front brake pads, left lca, sway bar bushings, oil... tranny fluid, speedo, etc. also had a shop do front rotors and bearings. noticed some wear on the drive belt and i think it may be due to overtightening. its worn and grooved on the sides and the 'top' is concaved with one side having a higher lip. the belt is not over a year old. all the pulleys show more wear on the "outside" of the groove as well. i'm worried about pulleys and the waterpump bearing, as the w/p pulley has play (not excessive) and the crankshaft one kindof seems to wobble while running, which i deem to be a possible warped pulley. is it still possible to get new pulleys? if they are bad whats the WCSenario? oh yeah, if one were to put on jy strut assemblies, could one repair missing spring rubber with anything? have a few ideas. anyway back to the searching. its been so fun working on this car, i almost look forward to fixing stupid mistakes. the new vocab i picked up reminds me to not be too optimistic. cheers!

waterpump bearing/pulleys?

water pump does seem to have "excessive bearing wear" as it rocks a tiny bit from side to side. alt pulley is "wobbly" when spun. wp pulley did not seem wobbly but perhaps a little stiff when spun. i'm assuming all three pulleys need replacement. the good news- i just bought a new festy!, which i will temporarily use for the parts i need. even ghosts need to move around... am having a damn hard time finding out how the moog sway bar to lca bushing washers go... some say conave out some say in! i can't even figure why they gave me an extra washer for the larger diameter sway bar side of things. cheerslight a man a fire and he'll stay warm for the night.

some progress... waterpump is out, spilled coolant on the timing belt so i think i will replace that, friggin coolant! oh well better now than on the highway. installed new bushings, apparently concave in on outer washer. didn't use the inner washer as there is one built in... torque says 47 - 57 ft lbs, but that was going to squish the bushings too heck so i just tightened em past the cotter pin hole... must be inch lb mix up or something... gonna use pulleys from partstiva and clean up its alt... maybe just put a new pulley on ghostivas if thats possible. then its struts with newly rubberized springs and we'll be back in business.light a man a fire and he'll stay warm for the night.

hehe. took off those bushings on a hunch today... those"built in" washers for the bushings are just snugged up to the larger diameter part of the sway bar. they come off with sum light hammer persuasion... new ones fit perfect - after sum rust removal. just coppied the old pattern, front side concave out-rearside concave in... man doing this job 3 times in the last month has made it progress to a 30 min. job off and on with being super careful cleaning and lubeing... Confucious say - even mistakes can bring happinesslight a man a fire and he'll stay warm for the night.
