  • transmision setting????

    Hey guys

trying to figure out something here

my car is 1990 Festiva automatic

and Ive been getting very bad gas milage (26.7)

    my 1992 was getting 32

my 1992 got rid of it 3 years ago so I dont remember the shifting points

The thing that I think is not right ... my 3 spd auto shifts very firm from 1-2 its normal I am sure

from 2-3 shifts good but not under 45miles an hour

stays in second but when I go a bit under 45miles an hour when it shifted in 3rd it stays

there till 40some then drop 2nd

keep in mine this is town trafic driving not highway so its not gunning the pedal to the floor

is there any adjusdments for this shifting?

    car only has 75000miles

i don't think there is a setting ON the transmission, but it is based on TPS i think../

someone else will have to chime in though..

Is the vacuum line to the transmission connected?

Sounds like it could be a modulator issue.

Also, see if the fluid is where it should be. Low ATF can cause all sorts of weird problems. Shifting should be around 25-35 mph, depending on how you're driving.

Normally you check the trans fluid with the car in park, warmed up and idling.

^^^ I meant the Haynes or Ford Manual for your car, which would be invaluable for determining such things as how to check the trans-fluid.

                      Tim,
the driving is light and no punching the gas.....

its same shifting 1-2 as my other 92.... but 2 to 3rd to high up

shift good on highway when gunning it right down....

Just hope its not the transmision itself

dont think it would my other had 280k original tranny

                      this one has 75

Heres an idea. Go to Ebay and pick up a Ford Service manual for a 91 Festiva. Starting on page 07-01-1 everything you could ever want to know about an automatic transaxle will be explained. There is simply not enough server space to hold your hand through every step you should be taking to troubleshoot your problem!

Heres one for you Service manual and EVM. Good price as well.

                            Heres just the Service Manual.
