  • 1989 Ford Festiva fuel problem

My 1989 Festiva with 200,000 miles is having the following problem. It idles perfectly, but when you give it gas the first ten minutes will be alright driving but then during driving it stalls out. It has a new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new plugs, new electronic modulator and it has been sprayed with carburetor cleaner. After it has been sitting, in order to start it you have to use quick start. Also the timing has been checked (it is within specs). Has anyone encountered or resolved this type of problem? Please let me know ASAP the car is sitting as the mechanics shop waiting for some input from experienced users. Other than this problem the car runs like it was just driven off the showroom floor, no oil leaks, no water leaks, etc..
    Thanks!

Sounds almost like the coil issue I had a while back, except for you said it would start with Quick Start while still warm.

You need to clean it really good. The jets or the needle must have some dirt or fuel residues. try to take the top part of the carb off and spray everything really good(be careful not to loose the little steel ball that has inside. After that If you have an air compressor, give it a good blow. Reassemble everything and test it. If it does not responce to this then check all the vaccums and sensors.

The car runs on mechanical control until the O2 sensor warms up, then switches to computer control of solneoids which regulate air/fuel mix. I have no idea how long it takes an O2 sensor to warm up or if the sensor or solenoids could be the problem but it does change operations when the engine warms up.

Another possible warming up problem could be the ignition control module in the distributor which might be getting too warm to work. Did you bed it in dielectric heat transfer paste?
