  • Air Flow Meter - Adjustment

I was reading on the net about the Air Flow Meter, that it can be adjusted. So I opened mine to see if it was set correctly and on the wheel found a scratch that it was turned about 8 notches to the lean side. Clockwise - lean. Anti-clockwise - rich. Now I put it back 8 notches to where it was new, I think. But I don't think that it was opened before, because the silicone appeared like the one from the factory. After when I started the engine, it was revving above to where it was before so I turned back the idle down a bit. Also on the road it feels a bit better.

You can wire in a potentiometer (spelling) into the iac, and can your lean/rich condition.

So what your telling me eurostiva is that I can mimic an HHO setup by adjusting the A/F ratio directly via the VAF and possibly narrow that by biasing the O2 sensor.

You can just "tell" the ecu that it's hot or cold outside, by means of a pot.

            OK, that's a start.
I just want to move it toward lean, while underload, perhaps using a Knock sensor hooked to a light to indicate it is too lean.
Might not be too bad an idea to use some EGT monitoring as well.

I bought one of those crappy $10 50hp "chips" off ebay and put it into the iac wires to "fool" the ecu.

Did you gain 50hp and 100 mpg with it? Coulda went to Radio shack and got the same resistor for less than $.25.

Thought those were just a single resistor, basically fooling the ECU into making the AF ratio richer because it thinks the air temp is cooler than it is.
I like the idea of a potentiometer(POT) so I can manually lean the mixture, within limits, that is why the need for a knock sensor and EGT monitoring.
                  Shooting for maximum MPG.
Of coarse better bang for the buck might be aero mods, like lowering the vehicle, air, dam, and really low side skirts.

^ true, this one did have a nice little plastic case and knob, oh yea and a "performance" sticker. LoL. I ended up buying it for $5 from a guy who couldn't figure it out. But i will say that watching my air/fuel gauge at the track @ w.o.t. and playing with it really made no difference.

Well that sucks, was hoping those "chips" had sme real effect, even if minor, wonder if the O2 senor just "corrected" the A/F via the ECU?
                      What A/F you running?
                      Would you buy it again?

I think if a person put it in-line to the o2 sensor, it may work better. I prolly would spend $5 on firing pins, before one of these.
