  • Festy running rough

    Hello,
Posted here this past summer when my '90 5spd manual transmission Festy was acting up. It would sometimes stall when first starting it during damp / rainy days. I received good feedback and replaced rotor, distributor and wiring. Ran like a champ after that.

Recently i have experienced the car missing a bit on acceleration, while in 1st 2nd or 3rd gear the car will lurch forward a bit. Also, at certain times, for instance on the highway and while approaching inclines in general the car will lose some power, forcing me to down shift. Car has 84k miles on it.

The last time the plugs were changed was at 70k miles or 14k miles ago. I was hesitant to change plugs as i feared one breaking and also thought along with adding new spark plugs timing needed to be adjusted with one of those light flashing guns...or more mechanical type stuff needed to be done that i cannot perform.
I was hoping to save some labor charges in diagnosing/resolving this problem on my own if i could.
    Appreciate any all suggestions. Thanks.

Changing your plugs will not affect your timing, so you can change them without having to adjust the timing. Also, changng the plugs is very cheap and easy to do. I would say run some seafoam to clean things out a bit and change your plugs.

Hi Oscar - thanks - Spark plug change sounds like an easy one. Not sure i understand what you mean by - run some seafoam to clean things out ?
      Thanks again

I would recommend plugs and wires. Yes, I know they were replaced 14K miles ago, but especially wires seem to break down and lose their effectiveness very quickly. Especially smaller gauge wires. And as for Sea Foam, here ya go.

P.S. I would also recommend putting a thread such as this in the Repair Section. But I'm sure a Mod can take care of this.

Passenger side, top of valve cover, towards the firewall. It has a hose coming off of it.

If you take that out and the rubber seal is broken, you can get a replacement at your local parts store.
