    helloooooo,
    well I have finally found the time to get my new rear brake assembly together, and I have run into some trouble with the wheel bearings, I took special care and did it with a buddy who has done it before but I still managed to screw something up... let me tell you what I did, and maybe someone could tell me how I did it and how to fix it....

    when I went to put the drum on I slowly tightened them moving the wheel, and tightening moving and tightening, until they were in good and tight, then I baked off and hand tightened and made sure there wasn't ne play ... at first the wheel was hard to turn, but it got easier, however, the right rear , is rubbing, and or the wheel bearing is making a noise, but it moves freely, just makes noise how do I explain, like dotted lines on a road - - - - -, in one spot and it has a little wobble to it…. It sounds like its coming from the bearing, more than rubbing on the pads, The left rear is worse it sticks and u can’t spin it freely, but you can move it with your hands…

    So what happened?
    Could I have over tightened the wheel bearings, seating the steel wrong in the drum? I dunno I took my time, and it isn’t rubbing on the backing plate, and the shoes seem to be in the right position, and I tried using the brakes, and the e brake to get the brakes to settle…. I dunno what’s going on,…. Is my only option to take bearings out and try again? I would love ne help

    You could try loosening and retightening the bearings again. I'm afraid I'm not much help. I don't think I do the best job at rear bearings either. Mine always seem to have a touch more play than I want, but they hold up okay.

    My Aspire axle on the Mutt has a bad self-adjuster on the left side. I cured it by flipping it over once, but it returned to its old tricks within a few months. Did you do everything "by the book?" Did you use a new spring kit on each?

      Did you change bearings or have the drums turned?

      If you didn't have the drums turned (I rarely do), it's possible that the new shoes are just slightly off from the "track" where the old shoes ran. The brake shoe material is just glued on, and I doubt there's close attention paid to the position of the material relative to the metal part. There always seems to be a bit of something scraping on mine too at first, but they soon get adjusted to each other. Another thing to do is put a tiny dab of grease on the places on the backing plate where the shoe touches - they have to slide back once the brake is released, and a bit of lube helps - the scraping could be shoes not fully returning to the released position.

      Also, I have a tendency to get the self-adjusters into the fully "out" position during installation. That's actually probably the most likely thing you did. You can get them retracted with a screwdriver without disassembling the whole arrangement. But, did you loosen them up before re-installing? It's hard to describe, but if you study them you'll see how they work. When you put all back together, the self-adjuster should be in the fully retracted position. The little part that moves - it has a little spring attached to it - is actually a cam, so the more it moves the farther it holds the shoe out.

        thanks for your replys, i got the one side seated properly, and the other i m just going to put in the races again etc and c what happens.... and to answer both of your questions...

        when i took out the old brakes, the e brake adjuster were both seized , so i took them out put some penetrating lubricant on them, and worked them back and forth until they moved freely, then i cleaned them both with brake clean, and a wire brush, put them back in, and i figured out how the adjuster worked before i put the drum on by trial and error,

        and yes i used all new springs for everything, the drums were new, the shoes, and all the wheel bearings( inner and outer)

        and driver side rear is fine, the pad just rubs a bit, so i am not too worried the other side tho, u can see a wobble in the wheel, and u can hear something is up with the bearings..... so like i said i m just going to re do it and see what happens, worse comes to worse i drive it out to a Buddy mechanic of mine and he helps me out, thanks for your suggestions tho!
