  • Wiper problems front & rear

I have recently purchased and am the proud owner of a 93 festiva. The previous owner had some problems with the front wipers and bypassed the wiper switch because it broke off. Wires were cut, no big deal. Not butchered. I decided to upgrade to the intermittent set up. Got a switch out of a 323 w/ cruise and even managed to get a regular switch from another festiva(found out later to be broken). After I repaired all the cut wires and hooked all the clips back up(front wipers were powered out a temporary wire from the rear wiper in the fuse panel) the front wipers went to the stop postion, and have not moved since. When I tried the rear wiper, it made some noise and stopped then blew it's fuse. I have spent acouple off days looking on the forum. The wiring links I found didn't work. I ordered a shop mannual this morning, but I need wiring diagrams for the wiper curcuits and some suggestions on where to look for the problem. I will be trying to check the motors and switches today.

The rear wiper if the sound was coming from the motor itself is probably bad, especially since it blew a fuse.

I was thinking the same thing about the back wiper being bad since it blew the fuse, Is the home position up or down from the factory? It only blew the rear wiper fuse once. I put another fuse in and it didn't blow that one, but it also didn't work. The first time I put the rear wiper fuse back in the arm moved to the up position and stopped. This is GREAT!!!! I don't know how I did this when I was younger working on my cars. All we had was a Chilton's manual. It looks like I have what I need to find my problems with your replies. I really appreicate your help!!! THANKS!!! Does the Ford shop manual have all this in it or are there more manuals I need to find? I will look at the festiva tommorrow.

Haven't done the gear swap, if the motor is bad it will happen. I've got a feeing I'm going to have to replace both motors.

Both front and rear wiper switches are good as per test. Gound is good BK wire @ C213. Still have to check C134 &135. Connetor C135 is inside the driver's side fender on the bottom of the washer reservoir. FUN! When I do continuity tests I am just checking wires at both ends to make sure there are no breaks.. Right? Never really understood this electrical testing. Slowly starting to understand it, a light will go on pretty soon. (Pardon the pun!) I was in a hurry tonight, did not have much time. I needed to get wipers moving, weather forcast has rain and snow in it. I wired a fused wire with a toggle switch in it straight from the battery to get me by. I can get the front wipers to move two speeds this way, do you think the motor is ok?

I would have to say, yes the motor is ok.
