  • Tranny leaking oil !! help asap

i was wondering if someone can point me to the right direction on this problem i got with my festiva !!!

here it goes my festiva is leaking this redish purplelish oil so i look underneath the car and theres like a metal plate the protects the tranny and on that plate theres an opening and theres a bolt there and that where the oil is dripping from !! i just dont know if is from that actual bolt where the oil is leaking from or if is comming from somewhere else!! the oil leakage is very minimal but is bugging me !! or could it be from a gasket from the tranny !! and by the way my tranny is working fine and its an automatic 91 gl festiva!!

hope someone can help me out i dont really know much about cars !!

If "the bold" is the drain plug you may be lucky and it just needs to be removed / threads cleaned and replaced. If "the bolt" is not the drain plug then I would guess that the seal is bad where the trans input shaft goes in the engine, not so good. To replace the seal you must remove the trans. Is this manual or auto trans?

I would get under it degrease and pressure wash everything. Drive it for a few days and then look for the wet spot. On a car that is at least 16 yrs. old seals tend to leak. A filter kit comes with a new pan gasket. Also you should snug all the bolts.....not tighten. Barely tighten.

This is a good suggestion, could be the pan gasket if your lucky or maybe some of the pan bolts are missing or loose. eurotiva is quite correct about the "not tighten" the last thing you want to do is over tighten, break or strip the treads..

Yes a car this oil tends too leak somewhere!!! and unless you do a complete change of all the seals then you will fix all the leaks. I just use lucas to help with the leaks a little but not so much totally stops them. Im lucky the car still runs after 20years!!!!!!!
