      rear bearing

I've packed my rear left several times, replaced it, torqued it correctly, got a different rim and balanced the rim/tire, have done it all, but still I get a sound that sounds like this.....va va va va vavavava the faster you go. Thats the best I could do. Its driving me crazy. The only thing I can think of is the spindle might be bent or have a flat spot or something, but it looks good all cleaned off.......GOT ANY IDEAS GUYS??
      THANKS, MARK

Mine have 193k on them and they are still quiet. I'm assuming they are still original based on the other stuff I've done to the car. I think all the previous owners did was change the oil and fill it with gas because most of the stuff I've replaced on it has been the factory parts as far as I can tell.

I've been thinking of changing mine just due to the mileage.

Here's the section from the manual that Festiva Tuner was awesome enough to post up for us. There's a couple of diagrams that show the preload spacer.

Thanks. I will use that for future jobs with the bearings. I checked with my friend that helped me and he said he did put the spacer in there. so whew i think my new set of bearings will do fine for a while. My rear right one is now going out i think. any help on what to do for that one. probably will start it in a week. again 91 ford festiva L.

well over 200k. If you put in new ones in without setting the preload load, you are wasting time. Also preload can be set within torque range if you can't find other spacers. For example my timkens with original spacer was in range of preload setting at 90 ft lbs on the bearing pressure, so I simply set my wheel nut torgue @ 90 fts lbs and chocked the nut. Been over 100k since, still no noise.
