  • Horn trouble

I think the previous owner removed the horn because I can't find it. It is a 90 L model. I can hear the relay clicking when the button is pushed. Anybody know where it supposed to be mounted? Color of the wire that goes to the horn?

Probably just dirty. You might be able to resurrect it. Many people relocate it to somewhere in the engine bay.

Actually, both sides have a wire for the horn. The sigle horn on my car was so weak that I decided to replace it and went with low and high tone horns, one on each side. On the driver's side, I had to pull the horn wire down but it should be next to the headlight wiring.

Now people can actually hear the horns!

Couldn't leave mine alone.... I have Cadillac horns on Rasta (took those off my last Brougham), and a set of Hella's I found at Summit on markdown when we were at Fall Fest last year on Shtinky. Some of the horns can be knocked around and will work, sometimes it is just a "no ground" because of corrosion. Slowly, in Rust Country, they are simply giving up the ghost. BTW, if you have a base model 88 or 9 car with NO options, including a rear defrost, the wiring isn't there for the other horn, or anything else either! Options are fun to add on those cars!

LOL. Thanks for the clarification. Mine is a GL and assumed that all of them had the same horn wire. Didn't know that it was a luxury item to have two horns!

Hi, I have a 1991 Ford Festiva that got me down to LA from Seattle and people feared for my life! They just don't know Festivas! Problem is the horn doesn't work now, I hear clicking when I press either horn button. I cleaned the connections in the steering wheel for each button. Only clicking, but twice heard very weak horn noise. Horn is under passenger side bumper behind the headlight. It has one wire going down to it and the connection seems secure. There is an empty little rod sticking up on the horn that looks like it might be for a ground wire but nothing is there. I will have to remove entire bumper to get to the horn? I am 63, not in perfect health so I want to know how tough this will be? I knocked the horn around with a wrench to see if it would help if the ground is a matter of being bolted to the frame - nothing different! Any ideas will be very appreciated!

Start by replacing the horn with a known good one or checking it with a test light. The horn's location usually picks up a lot of road spray. I also suggest moving it to the engine bay on one of the many nice threaded holes throughout the engine bay. BTW nice resurrection

horn is a single wire aplication, grounded through the mount to the body. likely bad horn if relay clicks hard.

No need to remove the bumper. It's up between the plastic wheel arch liner and front wing, in front of the wheel. On my UK KIA Pride it's on the LH side. You can just get an open-ended spanner on the fixing to remove it.

Ditch that rustly, little Festiva horn and go buy yourself a real horn!

Holy cow! Where would you intend to hide that 'little' gem? It looks to be bigger than my battery.
