I would highly recommend buying a used shop manual on ebay. It will be a good $20 spent.

That's nice but isn't this a info Copyrighted? I sure wouldn't like this site to get in trouble for it.

There's no negative view here. Copyright law violations are not a joke. Take it as you will.

I believe, because he purchased the original manual, and he's not displaying it for profit making purposes, he is not in violation of any copyright laws. If he was making copies of the manual for resale, or charging to view the pages he is putting up, he would have a problem. Just my two cents, tho.

Batstiva, thanks for your input. I'm under the impression that you can make all the copies you want of material that you have bought, but can't display it. The thinking is that it prevents others from having to buy it (as messed up as that sounds).
I hope I'm wrong because I've seen GenevaDirt post scanned copies of the manual more than once. I believe the actual site gets in trouble.
I've been a member in the 6speed, Renntech, Rennlist, and Discoweb forum sites for many years and the admins do not allow any postings of copyrighted material. Again, this is just an FYI. Take it as you will.

From a strictly legal standpoint, I'm not sure which of us is right. But I'll say this: From a common sense standpoint Haynes would be a fool to try to go after this site. Think about all the free advertising they get on here. Seriously, what's the first thing we pretty much tell everyone who joins up? Get a Hayne's. Wonder how many sales of the Festiva/Aspire manual they have made based on this site alone?

You could be right, and it might not hurt for someone to check and be sure, but I don't think there's much to worry about. Again, just my two cents.

I agree. However, if Haynes went after the site for posting their material without permission, it wouldn't make people that still need a manual not buy it. The truth is, if you need it, you will buy it. And theirs is one of the cheapest manuals. I don't even know what those scanned copies are from. Personally, I don't have one. I just have the Ford shop manual for my car.

Anyway, my comments were just to prevent someone looking after their manual-writing client's interest closing this site or any lawsuits against this site.

Okay, I found a very good read on copyright issues that I think would be good to share:

Well I dont know about anyone else.. But IM not going to say anything about any scans I run accross. And anyways in instances where it has happened that Ive seen. The offender has been notified by to offendee to pull said infringement or risk further troubles. Once the offender has done so its all good. So my advice "Right Click" "Save As"
