  • I don't know what to do :(

sooo on christmas my check engine light came on...idk what's wrong with it...i put oil in it and it's still acting up. Yesterday it wouldn't start until my step dad jump started it then it worked great...i tried it this morning and it wouldn't start. he jumped started it again and it worked perfectly. i tried it again an hour ago and it wouldn't start. i don't know what to do...my check engine light is still on.

Check the battery terminals if you haven't already. Have the battery tested, bad battery? Alternator must be ok or it wouldn't run when jumper was removed. Hope this helps.

Good time to check/replace the battery. I would take the O2 sensor out and clean it (with something that won't kill it). See if that helps clear that CEL.

Well, maybe for a little while It should go off once you disconnect the battery for several minutes but, if the problem is still there, the CEL will come back. Clean the O2 sensor, disconnect the [new] battery, and cross your fingers

When you change the battery it will clear the codes the light will go off. If there is a reason (O2 sensor) as mentioned the light will reappear. If it doesn't that's a bonus..

Amanda take your car to auto repair shop, normallly they will check a charging system for free. They can also check the battery. Battery's that are weak fail when its really cold outside.

I concur with everyone else here. It's you battery. If it was the alt. the car would not run once the jumper cables were disconnected. And batteries can die quickly. Take it to any McParts place, and they can check your charging system for free. But I'm betting it's going to be your battery.

You didn't fall on it and break it, did you?

take it out and take it to an autozone or somewhere like that and have them test it for free. You don't have and friends that live around you that know at least a little about cars and can help you?
