  • 89 Carbed festy blows "Engine" fuse at ignition?

I'm hoping someone might know the answer to this mystery. Everytime I turn the key it instantly blows the engine fuse, then not allowing it to idle (or run all that well)

    Ideas where to start looking?

I have a switch which connects directly to the starter motor to crank the engine when I'm checking the compression, etc. You might try something like that to help isolate the problem. Also try putting some oil or WD-40 into the keyhole in the ignition switch. That cleared up a problem I had.

I stuck a battery in the car one time and didn't tighten the battery cables. Just shoved them on tight until I could get to the garage. I hit the starter, heard a "pop" and then, nothing. Put a new fuse link on (the pop was the old one blowing), tightened the cables and fine since.
