  • Aspire Knuckle pre-load question!

Hey, does anyone have those numbers of what the knuckles should be pre-loaded to depending on what spacer is in there?

I'm taking my knuckles to a dealership to get them (Hopefully) re-built properly and I'd like to be able to give them as much information as possible... I don't want to have to pay for another press incident + Alignment.

Bump, Got my moog bearings from rock auto today...

Seems they mis-printed something.. instead of getting a set I only got 2 of the bearings...

Are the inner and outer the same?

inner and outer are the same part # so you'll need a total of 4.

IIRC the shop manual discussion correctly, various preload spacers have to be "tried" in order to get within the target range. Pick a spacer & try the procedure. If not within range then a thicker or thinner spacer would then be tested. The process would be repeated until the correct spacer is found that brings it "in range".

Yea, I just need to know what that range is so I don't have to rely on some know-it-all mechanic telling me that they torqued it as hard as they could and it'll be fine.

take it to a KIA dealer and tell them the knuckles are off of a RIO. they will do it right. Also a bearing set means the outer race and the bearing, not two bearings. I found that out after arguing with my uncle at autozone (he worked there) for an hour.

Yea, I found that out by ordering the parts and not getting what I expected!

I'll take 'em to a Kia dealership this time... Hopefully it gets done right this time!

Looks loke the info right out of the shop manual- the best source. I have always just re-used the same spacer that was in there from the factory. The 116-174 lb-ft of torque is after they go back on the car- right?
186,000 miles per second is not just a good idea, it's the law

So I took it into Kia today...

They want $120/H with absolutely no warranty.... so it's looking like it'll be close to $700 to do both my front knuckles...

Is anyone able to get the wheel bearings spacers? I'd be willing to buy 2 of each... I've got all the info I need to do it... I just need a couple parts that I can't find.

Did some digging, I got the preload spacer VIN's from Kia.
They are from a 2001-2003 Rio... I made a chart to make things alot easier.
