  • Battery sizes

My Festiva the automatic struggled starting this morning. It was in the negative's this morning luckily it fires right up. The battery in there is from Wal-Mart and a 05 so it's probably time. I will add heavier grounds before getting a new one.. might be able to get another year that way. Battery cables are clean and tight. I was looking at OReilly's website and the biggest they have is the 75/86-72 Superstart (720 cca). I'm assuming with the torque converter might need a little bit more ump. Don't know how or if that one would fit though. If Sams have a Energizer (Johnson Controls) in the same size I'll go with them, can't look them up online. May not need the biggest but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I know others are in a colder climate than I... what size is everybody running?

I actually want to switch to a smaller battery.

I run a huge battery, but mine is inside the car. Hey eric keep a pack of aspirin in your car and if the battery goes , put 1 aspirin in each hole (water holes in the batt.). This will only work once, but will keep you from getting stranded.

Honda batteries are smaller don't know the CCA's etc on them. Never heard of the aspirin trick before. Even though I have a battery relocation kit I'm saving that for the truck.

I want one of these drycells that only weigh about 13-14lbs and put it behind the passenger seat.

I dont know though, I guess I am just trying to keep a lightweight car just that, lightweight.

I looked at the battery in there and it's a 500 or 550 and being 5 years I bet that's reduced. Time for a trip to Sams.

I have fitted the largest battery that will fit in the battery tray, my reason being that I do a lot of night time running and I can rely on it to give the result I want each and every time, like leaving the park lights on and remembering about an hour later and its great for jump starts (not the festy but others).

My battery is a BIG one, different to the type you guys get in the states, getting close to $200(NZ) dollars

I got my used battery half price at a battery place in the industrial park in Jan '98. After a few years I pried the top off and filled up the cells. Just keeps going probably due to low milage. I bought a Toyota battery at a garage sale for backup but never used. Check charge on both once a month.

any of the gel batteries work very well and have plenty of power even in minus degree weather. They almost never go bad, have used one for almost ten years, takes a recharge and is a deep cycle.

the gel filled batteries are great if you have the cash to spend. when i first got my festy it had no battery. i went to walmart and bought there cheapest battery it was like $45 (and its a little fella) it works great no problems at all

Turns out a new battery wasn't needed... as with everything else a botch job on the positive battery cable and neither cable was tight to begin with. No wonder the radio's kept resetting. Re-did everything and put some MMO on there and turned over like a new battery. A 700cca battery might be overkill in the Festiva.

Since i live in a cold climate i find it to be necessary to have a big battery so i have good quality spark plugs, wires, make sure the alternator and starter are up to snuff and have a 800cca battery. in my tercel i have a 1000cca battery. in doing this i can have either of those cars in -40 or colder weather without being plugged in and i know it will start when i need it to. and i also keep a good pair of booster cables with me since i have somehow become the guy who boosts peoples cars. also in cold weather i always keep my tank above half. if it gets to cold i find that condensation builds up in the tank and then the car wont start. or it will then it will stall right away. for that i put gasline antifreeze in my tank then fill it up to the top, take it for a 10 or so minute drive and then alls well again.

sorry for my rant. during christmas i was boosting lots of people.
