  • Carburetor issue?

I have an 88LX. Ive gone through and searched, searched searched for this drat carburetor problem

I know my EGR valve is having issues, So that was dealt with accordingly. The car stumbles and farts around when you barly press the throttle. then just DIES right around 3K rpm. I lubricated all the linkages thinking it was that. I also replaced the plugs and wires. Cap looked new so I left it alone. I was getting a code 16 and 28 all EGR related. I pulled the vac line and made sure the EGR valve was closed. Only things I think it could be are a coil or the carburetor itself at this point. Im about half a step form beating the carb off this car and throwing an EFI B6 in it.

    feedback carb

This is a feedback carb and has a mind of its own. I tossed it for a Weber from festiva motorsports. The problem is the non standard carb flange. Too bad there wasn't an aftermarket intake manifold. As for me, I am still waiting on my custom throttle cable from Florida to continue my twin carb project.

Well you wouldnt just be throwing an EFI in it. Thatd be a bit more involved.Have you checked the spark from the coil? Does it appear weak if you did? The carb itself could need a rebuild. I believe theres a diaphram in there that goes bad.(Others with more knowledge of carbs will correct me if Im wrong)

Yeah i noticed the rather ODD base plate to these carbs. I have Half the nerve to yank it off the intake and see what I can cook up with it. I did note that the old plugs were indicating a lean situation. I pulled the fuel line off, cranked the engine while holding it in a jar. It showed to have a decent spray of fuel.

Im aware of having to make/replace the entire harness and changing the fuel tank or putting an inline unit in. Wiring doesnt bother me. carburetors Do. The carb itself is pretty black on the inside, and the linkages were pretty well gummed. I cant see through the float bowl glass either. I did alot of cleaning to it and oiling, but stil wishes to not co operate with me.

What are the CA rules about sticking on a Weber? Do they not care if it's over 20 years old or something like that?

BTW Dan thanks for finding that link for him; I was about to.

i would replace the coil... especially if it's original. it's cheap and can help bring back the pep and milage your '88 once had.
