  • help with my 91GL !!!

my friend just recently did a tune up on my car and replaced the timming belt valve gasket and timmimg belt gasket and replaced the spark plugs and he also replaced the fuel filter and degreased the engine bayand power washed it!!! now the engine shakes when i start the car seems like it wants to turn off and it stays like that for a lil while and then when i put the car on drive the car starts running but the car still feels shaky and when i come to my first stop it dies !! i thought it was the battery so i bought a new one, but that didnt work either!! i checked the spark plugs and they were nice and dry !!! and also my radio doesnt turn on any more!!! car starts with a shaky engine ,but dies after a few minutes car was running super fine till i decided to do a tune up ... NO engine check light on so thats good at least !!!

any ideas of what it could be????

My first guess would be that water got into the distributor cap from the power wash, Did your friend cover anything electrical in the engine bay?

I agree water in the cap. Also water in the fuseable links block?. Wonder why the radio quit.

Take distributor cap off, spray everything inside and out with wd-40. Re-install cap. Remove each wire from cap, spray wire and cap with wd-40, reinstall. Take each wire off each sparkplug and spray. Take coil wire off and spray each end and socket. Report back.

the belt being off won't cause the shake or stall (did it to Caety's aspire: +/-1 tooth) but it will cause lack of power. i would go after the dizzy cap, and the fuse links as stated above.

Try the Main EFI plugs too. I went through some shallow water with my 92' and soaked the engine bay. it ran rather rough or not at all until I pulled the main EFI plugs, I think the ones around the distributor apart, blew em out and let em dry for a little bit. It ran fine afterward.
