Maybe not for that, but he seems to have more than a few questions.
Besides, it appears he has taken your advice and searched (see edited first post).
Would still be nice to know where members are located.

I'd actually like to know what the idle speed rpm is supposed to be. I'm going to clean the idle air speed control dealio or whatever just left and upward from the starter (edited>> I'll be cleaning it tomorrow; and it starts fine and runs at 1500 but after it warms up it shoots on up to 1800-2000, really annoying!!). Mine today was running at 1800 at stops, I just adjusted the idle screw and it fully seated so I backed it out 1/16th of an inch or so...but it's still at 1400. It certainly sounds better!!

as far as knowing where people are, on the vtr250 site I'm apart of, at one time we had a "map" and you could put a "pin" on the world map for wherever you are located. I really enjoyed having it! but of course there are not as many members on there compared to most forums.

650 rpm for manual trannys and 750 for automatics i THINK going off of memory.. should say on the sticker under the hood.

wow...I'm still at 1200 started and about 1400 warmed up. I can't imagine the idle control unit deal making it run that much more from being clogged up but I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Let me say that your problem is not the result of a clogged Idle Speed Controller. It is not closing as the engine warms up and is allowing too much air to flow through it.

DO NOT put any kind of solvent into the controller. That will only make your problem worse. It is not designed to handle anything but air. Nothing but air should go into it. I've destroyed more than one by soaking them in cleaning solvent. I don't believe it is sealed internally to resist the flow of cleaning solvents into places where they can do harm.

I can tell you how to check you controller without removing it, but won't bother since you may have already done so.

Post your current status and we can go from there.

well, I apologize John, it's already been cleaned and runs 100% better. idle is now happily around 900

                    thanks for the suggestions though
