EGR Valve?

After doing some research on my geo metro, i went out to my festiva to make sure there wasn't an egr valve, b/c i have had that apart numberous times and had never come across one.

but, according to rockauto:

exact same senario for my co-worker who has an 87 mazda 323 B6. not on the car, but rockauto says yes, even shows a pic of it.
could it be a california emissions thing and optional?

The 88-89 carbed cars have an EGR valve. All others..............no.
