  • MY FIRST CAR!!! A stock 93 FORD FESTIVA L!!! URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!

    HI GUYS!!!
IVE BEEN ON THIS WEBSITE FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS AND JUST FIGURED OUT HOW TO START A THREAD HEHE!!!!!
I JUST MOVED HERE FROM INDIA AND GOT MY FIRST CAR!!! A FORD FESTIVA! I HAVENT DRIVEN IT MUCH YET BUT I THINK IM ALREADY STARTING TO FALL IN LOVE WITH IT ALREADY.

I URGENTLY NEED SOME EXPERT FESTIVA HELP!!!

I GOT MY CAR OFF OF MY GRANDPA AND IT IS IN PRETTY GOOD CONDITION. HE BOUGHT IT OFF OF A FARMER WHO USED TO PULL HIS FESTIVA AROUND BEHIND HIS TRUCK SO THE ODO SHOWS MORE THEN THE ACTUAL MILEAGE.

HE TOLD ME THAT WHEN HE GOT THE CAR ONE FRONT TIRE WAS ALMOST DIAGONAL INSTEAD OF STRAIGHT AND TO FIX THAT HE CHANGED THAT SHOCKS AND PUT IN AN ASPIRE'S SHOCK BUT AFTER THAT MY UNCLES WOULDNT LET HIM DRIVE IT SINCE HE HAS A LUMINA AND ITS HARD FOR HIM TO DRIVE A STICK.
THEN I CAME HERE LESS THEN A MONTH AGO AND HE GAVE ME THE CAR.
IT WAS LAYING IN THE GARAGE FOR MORE THEN 6 MONTHS AND STARTED IN THE FIRST TRY IN -20 DEGREES! WE TRIED TAKING IT OUT OF THE GARAGE BUT THE REAR WHEELS WERE FROZEN hehe!
THEN WE FINALLY TOOK OUT THE CAR AS SOON AS IT WENT A LIL ABOVE FREEZING AND TOOK IT TO THE MECH TO GET IT FIXED UP.

I GOT NEW MONROE STRUTS AND PUT IN THE OLD SPRINGS.... DINT WORK (the springs werent tight enuf on the struts). THEN WE TRIED PUTTING ON ASPIRE SPRINGS ON THE STRUTS AND DROVE IT..... NOT STABLE AT ALL. IT WAS OK ON A CLEAR ROAD BUT AS SOON AS THE SMALLEST BUMPS CAME THE CAR WAS GOING SIDE TO SIDE! VERY UNSTABLE!!!

THEN I TOOK OUT THE STRUTS AND PUT IN USED FORD FIESTA SHOCKS (the whole assembly)...... the same prob but very MINOR improvement. ONE MORE THING I NOTICED IS THAT WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT ( like a 90* turn ) and slightly let go of the steering wheel FOR A SEC the steering wheel is turning all the way to the right ( like taking a u- turn ) all by it self and the steering wheel is getting very heavy to get it to straighten out.

ONE MORE THING I NOTICED IS THAT WHEN I ACCELERATE IN 1ST GEAR IT TENDS TO GO TO THE LEFT EVEN WITH THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT! ( i dint even accelerate hard cuz my grandpa was sitting next to me )

IT HAS BEEN LAYING AT THE MECH'S FOR 3 WEEKS NOW TRYING TO FIX IT BUT HE CANT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM :angryfire:
he says the ball joints, control arms, steering and everything seems fine SO WUT COULD THE PROBLEM BE???

    GUYS PLZ HELP ME!!!!

ANY1 FROM MINNESOTA OR ANYWHERE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME ON dj_areeb@yahoo.com OR CAN CALL ME ON 763 381 1528

WHOEVER FIXES MY PROBLEM ILL TREAT YOU TO SUM BEERS OR PIZZA :p
hehehe!!!!!!!!!! ( thats all i can afford now hehe )

THE CAR BRAKES FINE IN A STRAIGHT LINE. IF THE BRAKES WERE THE PROBLEM WOULDNT IT PULL TO ONE SIDE WHEN BRAKING?
MINE JUST GOES SIDE TO SIDE ON THE SMALLEST BUMPS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT

(huh? wut was that in the loadspeaker.... i dint hear u....)

ha...have you checked the tie rods...the rack, even a worn tire can make it pull a certin way...you may jack it up and wiggle the front tires too to se if there is any extra play...

yeah ive checked the rods, the rack, ball joints, control arms... everything seems fine.

do u think allignment and wheel balancing could be the problem?
but y is the steering turning all the way to the right instead of straightening out ????

have you looked at the sway bar bushings that are in the lower control arms?
there is supposed to be 2 in each arm. one from the front into the arm and one from the rear with a washer and nut

it could definatly be alignment, thats been the case quite offen to have to strain to keep it strait

twiztid, that pic is awesome. MONSOON ain't gonna be the only one stealing that one.

To the OP, jack the front end of the car up, one side at a time. Grab the tire at the top and bottom and shake. How much wobble do you get? Now grab the wheel at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, and shake. How much wobble that way? I'm betting you've got worn sway arm/ LCA bushings, with a side of worn out tie rod ends.

When it starts the side to side wobble while driving, is this at higher speeds, lower speeds, or does it matter?

combination of sway bar bushings and alignment. The bushings being bad will make the car pull to one side during acceleration and I am sure the alignment has suffered because of it.

to check the ball joints properly on our cars you need to jack it up and pull/pry down on the lca and check for play. the regular vertical wheel shake doesnt always show a bad part on our cars.

as far as your steering problem, sounds like a combination of worn out front end parts and EXCESSIVE TOE-OUT, causing bump steer and pull on accel.
