  • Ordering all my stuff for my engine reseals. Oil pump??

Just wondering everybodies opinion. Doing a reseal with water pump, timing belt, etc. Was debating on doing the oil pump while I had the engine out however it's 100 for one and I'm doing two engines! Good ol rock auto has everything for me for both engines under 500 without oil pumps. Debating to go with the if it's not broke don't fix it theory or the might as well do it while I'm in there theory. An additional 100 for a 125 and 150 car is a big deal. And btw if you dont know the definiton of non-interference please don't answer!! Lol

And ps. The one engine I'm getting from bobby d and is in good running shape with only a valve cover gasket leaking. Should I just be really lazy and just fix the valve cover gasket? The other one is the one with the locked up cam...so kind of leaning towards doing the oil pump

Yea kind of what I was thinking. Talking to Bobby about what his motor actually needs. I think the cam one is gonna get the works

I say leave the oil pump alone if its a running engine. I resealed a engine with 135k and never thought about the oil pump. You never hear about oil pump problems on this form. Most engines go well over 200k without oil pressure problems.

Mark, if you have a Ford shop manual, there is a procedure for evaluating the pump. Basically, you remove the back cover, and check a few clearances with a feeler gage. If its all in spec, put it back together (after a thorough cleaning) and reinstall.

for the running engine, I'd just do VC, front and rear mains and cam. Leave the HG alone if it's not leaking externally. Maybe oil pan if you suspect it to be leaking.

And while I'm doing the crank and cam seals might as well do the timing belt and water pump.
