  • Was a cable operated hatch release ever available?

Like every other asian car from the 80's-90's, was there ever a little pull lever on the floor to release/open the hatch?

      Hatch

I don't think it ever was. I made my own using a solenoid from an Aerostar door lock. I used the hot wires for the cargo light and mounted the switch hidden where the licence plate lights go. So I can always open my trunk even from outside the vehicle.

I made my own, really simple, i ran a cable from the release inside the hatch, up, through a hole and to the back seat, pretty ghetto but it works good when someones in the back..with say, a paintball gun lol, and needs to pop the hatch from the inside

that's awesome- I've got a funny picture in my head about how that would play out. Playground terror, for sure.
'89 L! -shaved, lowered, 17's, and two 10"subs. B6swap. Candy tangerine, flamed, painted carbon look hood/stripes. AND the roof glows in the dark... That was a dumb idea.

You cant forget to attach a rope, like i did lol, so you can pull it shut. I originally thought it would be fine if you pulled the same cable just to shut the hatch, but.....BUT, the release stays open, so the latch wont catch.

I seen a early model Mecury Tracer with both options, actually I think it's standard. I'm pretty sure everything from it would bolt on.
